These brackets were designed specifically for building floating shelves out of standard lumber that is readily available and inexpensive. The 1 inch tall backplate is perfect for shelves 1 1/2 inch thick such as 2×4, 2×6, 2×8, 2×10 and 2×12. These, like all floating shelf brackets, are best mounted to studs over Sheetrock. They are designed and manufactured more for light weight to medium-duty decorative purposes. However, these small brackets deliver a lot of strength in comparison to other floating shelf brackets of similar size. They hold 45 lbs per stud they are attached to. The 5 rod length is perfect for floating shelf depths 6-10 and the 7 rod length will work for 8-12 shelf depths.
